Scheduled Water Service Outage on Wednesday Will Result in Precautionary
Boil Water Advisory for Customers in Salt Rock; Outage is due to a valve replacement maintenance project
Special to Huntingtonnews.net
Charleston, WV (HNN) – More than 100 customers in Salt Rock’s Smith Creek area should expect a disruption in their water service on Wednesday, November 10.
The outage, which will begin at 9:00 a.m., is expected to last no more than six hours. A boil water advisory will immediately follow once service is restored.
The planned outage is due to a maintenance project to replace a gate valve, which will allow West Virginia American Water to continue offering the reliable service its customers deserve and expect. West Virginia American Water apologizes for any inconvenience that its customers may experience.
The affected customers are located on Smith Creek Road, Merritts Creek Road, and Rt. 10 from Smith Creek to Merritts Creek.
When pressure returns to normal, customers within the advisory area should boil their water before consumption until further notice. Customers are asked to bring water used for drinking, cooking, bathing and brushing teeth to a full boil for a minimum of one minute, then cool before use.
Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms that may be present in the water. West Virginia American Water also recommends the following steps:
· Throw away beverages and ice cubes if made with tap water;
· Keep boiled water in the refrigerator for drinking;
· Provide pets with boiled water after cooling;
· Do not use home filtering devices in place of boiling or using
bottled water; most home water filters will not provide adequate protection from microorganisms;
· Use only boiled water to treat minor injuries.
Once the system recovers, West Virginia American Water will be collecting additional water quality samples in the area of the outage. For more information, contact West Virginia American Water’s customer service center at 1-800-685-8660.
