Special to Huntingtonnews.net
Charleston, WV (HNN) – Go on a whitewater rafting adventure to one of the most breathtaking natural wonders of the world with the Clay Center’s new giant screen film premiering Saturday, Nov. 13 in the ElectricSky Theater TM. Show times will be Wednesday through Saturday at noon, 1, 3 and 4 p.m. and Sundays at 1, 3 and 4 p.m.
Narrated by Academy Award-winning actor Robert Redford and featuring a stirring score by Dave Matthews Band, “Grand Canyon Adventure: River at Risk” is an eye-opening documentary that explores the spiritual, artistic and life-sustaining powers of water and showcases the lasting effects caused by the lack of this essential resource.
Set in the Grand Canyon on the iconic Colorado River, this film calls attention to the fact that an estimated 1.5 billion people lack access to safe water, while 5 million people die every year due to water-borne illnesses. The film follows the important expedition of two environmental heroes: world-renowned river advocate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and celebrated anthropologist Wade Davis, accompanied by their daughters Kick Kennedy and Tara Davis. They are guided by Shana Watahomigie, a Native American of the Havasupai tribe and the first member of her tribe to become a national park ranger and river guide.
“In our film, the Colorado River becomes a metaphor for global water issues, revealing how interconnected our rivers, water supply and human actions really are,” says film director Greg MacGillivray. “A river trip is one of those amazing life events where you’re ripped out of your daily routine and inspired to see the world in new ways.”
