Kanawha Charleston Health Department Selected “Host Site” for CDC

Charleston, WV (HNN) - Dr. Rahul Gupta has announced that the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department has been selected as a host site for the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Public Health Apprentice Program (PHAP). The health department was among 60 public health agencies in the nation chosen to participate in this program.
 
“This is a highly competitive workforce development national program sponsored and funded by the CDC,” reports Dr. Gupta. The mission of this program is to prepare highly qualified, entry-level public health professionals to meet the public health workforce needs of the 21st by providing them opportunities to gain experience in the day-to-day operation of local public health programs.
 
Rachel Holloway who joined the department on July 19th hails from Southington, Connecticut, and is a recent graduate of Cornell University in New York, receiving her Bachelor of Science degree concentrating in Biology, Health and Public Policy. She will spend the next 2 years as a public health apprentice at the health department receiving on-the-job training in the areas of communicable diseases and emergency preparedness.
 
“I am honored that the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department has been chosen as a host agency,” states Dr. Gupta. “Miss Holloway will be a valuable asset to our community who will assist in our mission to protect and promote the health of the residents of Kanawha County.”
