The West Virginia Trophy Hunters Association Awards Thousands For Wildlife Conservation
Special to Huntingtonnews.net
During its annual awards ceremony, at its South Charleston, WV headquarters, the West Virginia Trophy Hunters Association donated nearly $21,000.00 to various organizations for the benefit of wildlife conservation and the education of youth in conservation, shooting sports, and fishing. Recipients included were Trout Unlimited, for liming streams to restore trout quality water, the West Virginia Raptor Rehabilitation Center supporting the rehabilitation of injured or illegally captured raptors and when possible returning them to the wild, the U.S. Sportsman's Alliance to promote the hunting sports, Beyond The Back Yard, the Mercer Sportsman and Conservation Club, to support a fishing rodeo and seminar for children, the Wirt County 4-H Shooting Sports Program, the West Virginia DNR Archery In The Schools program, WV DNR Hunters Helping The Hungry, WV DNR Becoming An Outdoor Woman training program, and The WV DNR Snowshoe Hare Study.
Also among the recipients was the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, to assist Kentucky RMEF volunteers in support of the Kentucky elk herds, since the West Virginia DNR still refuses to reintroduce elk to our state.
The West Virginia Trophy Hunters Association has long been the largest over all contributor to Hunters Helping the Hungry, in West Virginia. In 2008 alone their donations paid for the processing of 2,083 servings of heart healthy venison for needy families. The monies donated to these organizations were raised by this group of dedicated unpaid volunteers by producing the annual West Virginia Hunting and Fishing Show. All show proceeds, along with the proceeds of the annual Wildlife Charity Auction, above the non-profit organization's annual expenses, are donated each year and have been for 23 years.
