Hamlin, WV (HNN) – “It is so sad, that people can’t trust a simple thing as voting,” wrote a respondent on a television news website. The station had just reported that the Lincoln Journal newspaper had confirmed that Lincoln County clerk Donald C. Whitten and others had been served with federal subpoenas. The newspaper said that “multiple sources” have confirmed the service.

County Commissioner Dr. Charles Vance has stated that he discovered names of dead people on early balloting or absentee ballot requests. The issue came to a peak after a disproportionate amount of absentee ballots were requested. Vance claimed that he had signed the death certificates of some of those making requests.

Vance told the newspaper, “I saw eleven names on there of people that I personally know are dead and died before they could have requested absentee ballots. I have shared that information with the proper authorities.”

Lincoln Prosecutor Jackie Stevens has convened a grand jury investigation.
