WV Trophy Hunters Donate Nearly $29,000 to Wildlife, Youth Education Programs

South Charleston, WV (HNN) -- The West Virginia Trophy Hunters Association (WVTH) held their annual “Awards Social” Saturday, June 24, 2006 where the all-volunteer non-profit organization gave out checks totaling $28,800 to organizations working for the benefit of West Virginia wildlife, fisheries, and youth education pertaining to wildlife or shooting sports.
 
The recipient of $9,000 of those donations was the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources. On hand to receive the checks for the WV-DNR were Curtis Taylor, Chief of the Wildlife Division and Scott Warner, WV Director of the Archery in the Schools program. The West Virginia Trophy Hunters Association; is the state’s largest overall donor to the Hunter Helping The Hungry program, as well as the WV-DNR Land Acquisition Program to acquire lands for hunting.
 
Other recipients were the Boy Scouts of America, U.S. Sportsman Alliance, the WV Raptor Rehabilitation Center, the Putnam County Gun Club’s youth shooting program, Friends of Cheat, Trout Unlimited, The Ruffed Grouse Society, Putnam County 4-H, Wirt County 4-H archery program, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and the Salvation Army’s Charleston Boys and Girls Club camp wildlife program.
 
In addition, the WVTHA also funds their Wildlife Study Project of nearly 500 acres, as well as the members providing thousands of hours of volunteer work to support wildlife and youth outdoor activities each year.
