By Huntingtonnews.net Staff

Ken Tackett of the West Virginia Golf Association has issued the following statement regarding Tim Fisher of Staats Mills, WV:

“The Championship Committee of the WVGA has taken initial action to suspend Tim Fisher from WVGA events until July 17, 2011 for conduct unbecoming of a WVGA member attributable to violations of the WVGA Code of Conduct. Mr. Fisher has been notified of the action and of his right to appeal the action taken. All of this comes on the heels of a comparable suspension by the USGA arising out of circumstances in relationship to the recent U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship. No further comment will be at this time.”

According to news reports (link to news story about Fisher: http://www.dailymail.com/Sports/201008100881) the 29-year-old three-time WV Amateur champion was suspended for failing to properly notify the USGA of his intent to withdraw from last month's U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship in Greensboro, NC. to play in the WV Open at Sleepy Hollow Golf Club in Hurricane, WV.
