Sissonville, WV (HNN) — Bridgeport’s Caroline Ramsey won her 10th West Virginia Women’s Senior Amateur Championship on Thursday afternoon, June 17, 2010 at Edgewood Country Club, where she shot a 5-over-par 147 for the 36-hole tournament.

On the ninth hole, Ramsey chipped in her putt from the left side to birdie, securing her position as tournament leader. Sue Goldcamp, of Parkersburg, finished five strokes behind Ramsey, earning herself the Runner-Up title. Vienna’s Barb Astorg took the first place position for the Gold Flight, shooting a combined 162.

The WV Women’s Senior Amateur teed off yesterday morning in the blistering heat wave that has been rolling through the Kanawha Valley. After the first round, the ladies were invited to the Governor’s Mansion, where they enjoyed a reception with first lady, Gayle Manchin.

For the final round, the ladies were grouped into six different flights, based on their scores from the first round. There was a flight winner for each flight, as well as skills competitions on both days of the event. Lisa Weston, of Dunnellton, won the fewest putts competition during the first round, while Charleston’s Mary Payne won the closest-to-the-hole competition on the fourth hole of the course. Payne was also the flight winner for the Championship flight. Barboursville’s Candy Rollyson took top honors for the first flight, Huntington’s Betty Skeens won the second flight, Charles Town’s Shirley Fortney won the third flight, Vienna’s B.J. Hathaway won the fourth flight, and Scott Depot’s Sharon Persinger was the fifth flight Champion. There were also low net Champions for each flight.
