Marshall's Sikula and Blank Named to 2010 C-USA All-Academic Team

Irving, TX (HNN) - A pair of Thundering Herd baseball players; Kyle Blank and Arik Sikula, were named to the 2010 Conference USA All-Academic Team, which was announced by the league office Monday, May 24.
 
Five seniors, five juniors and a trio of sophomores were named to the team, as selected by the league's baseball sports information directors. Memphis led all teams with three representatives, while East Carolina, Marshall, Rice and Southern Miss placed two selections each. Houston and Tulane were also represented. The all-academic team for baseball consists of student-athletes who have earned a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and are a starter or key reserve for their team.
 
Blank led the way for the Thundering Herd with a 3.90 GPA. The Finance major pitched in 33 games, posting a 1-1 record. He started a pair of games while striking out 14 batters over 20 innings.
 
Sikula, a Finance & Management major, had a solid 3.79 GPA. He has been the most consistent pitcher on the Marshall staff, currently holding a 3.33 ERA. Sikula leads the team with six wins and has pitched in 16 contests, starting eight. He has struck out 54 batters while walking 31 over the course of 67.2 IP. His .246 batting average against is also a team best.
 
The 2010 C-USA Baseball Championship gets underway Wednesday, May 26, with three games at Cougar Field in Houston, Texas. Semifinals will be played Friday, May 28, while the championship game will take place at 7 p.m. CDT on Saturday, May 29 and will be televised LIVE on CBS College Sports.
