Huntington, WV (HNN) - Marshall University head women's basketball coach Royce Chadwick has announced the signing of NJCAA All-American Lateidra Elliott to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Thundering Herd beginning next season.
Elliott, a 5-6 point guard, spent the last two seasons playing for Lincoln Trail (Ill.) Community College. As a sophomore in 2009-10, Elliott averaged 18.9 points per game, a total that was 11th in the nation while dishing out an average of 6.4 assists per game, a total that was 5th in the country.
"We are very excited to add Lateidra to our Marshall family. She will be an impact player not only on our team but in Conference USA," Chadwick said. "She brings all facets of the game to the floor. She is a bona fide impact player."
For her efforts, Elliott was named a first team National Junior College Athletic Association All-American, the first player in Lincoln Trail history, men's or women's, to receive the honor. She was also named to the State Farm/Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-American Team while earning All-Region 24 MVP honors.
The Louisville, Ky. native helped the Lady Statesmen to a 28-5 mark this year, the best record in program history. Her team advanced to the national tournament for the first time after winning the Region 24 Tournament Championship.
Elliott made her mark on the Lincoln Trail record book, breaking the school scoring and assists records. In two seasons, she recorded 1,074 points, breaking the previous mark of 1,063. Her 397 assists eclipsed the previous mark of 346, a mark previously held by former Marshall player Casey Baker.
