Huntington, WV (HNN) – The Marshall University baseball team will play a pair of midweek games prior to traveling to East Carolina to compete in a three-game Conference USA series. The Thundering Herd will host Morehead State on Tuesday, April 27 at 3 p.m. before heading to Ohio State for a Wednesday night contest at 6:35 p.m.

MU (20-20) has won seven-straight games, including a three-game sweep of C-USA opponent UCF over the weekend. Kurt Lipton was named C-USA Hitter of the Week as the senior outfielder went 8-for-18 over a five-game span with two triples, three doubles and eight RBI.

Morehead State travels to Huntington with an overall record of 22-19 and is led offensively by J.D. Ashbrook. The Eagles top batter checks in with a .446 batting average along with 17 homers and 47 RBI. As a team MSU has clubbed 82 homers on the season.

The Herd dropped an earlier meeting with MSU on April 13 by a 15-6 score in Kentucky. Kenny Socorro was a bright spot in the batter’s box as he went 4-for-5 with three runs scored. Ashbrook was 5-for-5 in the Eagles victory, as the team collected 20 hits.

Ohio State (22-13) looks to avenge an early season 17-1 blow out win from the Herd on March 13 at the Arby’s Classic hosted by the University of Tennessee. In that game, MU collected 19 base knocks, as four different players (Josh Valle, Victor Gomez, Kurt Lipton and Alfredo Brito) all registered three-hit games.

Zach Hurley owns the top batting average for the Buckeyes, hitting at a .408 clip. He has also recorded six homers and 31 RBI. Alex Wimmers, who is not scheduled to start in the match-up has been an ace for OSU. The righy owns a 9-0 record, 1.61 ERA along with 78 strikeouts in 67 innings on the bump.
