Marshall Softball Hosts Dayton On Sunday
Contest is the Herd’s final non-conference game

Huntington, WV (HNN) – In its final non-conference matchup of the season, the Marshall University softball team (22-22) will host Dayton (15-25-1) in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 18 at Dot Hicks Field.
The Thundering Herd is riding a four-game winning streak after sweeping a pair of games from Ohio on Tuesday and Wright State on Wednesday.
Marshall is paced at the plate by Jazmine Valle, Caitlyn Jackson and Rebecca Gamby. Valle is tops on the team in batting average, .339, and RBI with 31. Jackson is hitting at a .329 clip and has a team-best 46 hits. Gamby rounds out the trio with a .325 batting average and offers a club-best 11 doubles and .417 on-base percentage.
Leading the Herd pitching staff is Katie Murphree, who holds a 2.61 ERA in 168.2 innings pitched. The senior has made 28 starts in the circle in 35 appearances and struck out 156 batters along the way.
The Flyers enter the contest after playing a pair of games against Saint Louis on Saturday. They are led offensively by Kathleen Maloof, who leads the team in batting average (.347), runs (26), hits (42), doubles (14) and slugging percentage (.562).
Top pitcher for Dayton is Eva Rappe, who enters the contest with a 6-6 record and a 4.19 ERA in 100.1 innings of work.
