Marshall Women’s Golf Drops Two Spots at EKU Lady Colonel Classic

Richmond, KY (HNN) -- The Marshall University women’s golf team fell two spots on Sunday afternoon, April 11, shooting a 326 in the final round of the EKU Lady Colonel Classic at Arlington Golf Club, to finish the tournament in 11th place (318-320-326=964).
Morehead State shot a 300 for the second consecutive round to break a three-way tie for first place and earn the tournament victory. Conference USA foe, Memphis, finished just four strokes back in second place.
The Thundering Herd entered the third round tied with Ohio University for ninth place. Samford University steamrolled past MU and the Bobcats with a 314 on Sunday to take the ninth place finish, while Ohio out shot the Herd by six strokes in the final 18 holes to finish in 10th place (312-326-320=958).
Rachel Halloran (Leawood, Kan.) led Marshall in third round action with a team-low 79 on the afternoon. She finished the tournament with a 240 (79-82-79=240), just three-strokes behind teammate Andrea Grier (Hagerstown, Md.), (79-76-82=237).
Maria Battaglia (Uniontown, Pa.) improved two strokes on day two, shooting an 81. Battaglia concluded the tournament with a 247 (83-83-81=247).
Molly Ginger (Centerville, Ohio) wrapped up the MU lineup, posting an 84 (87-83-84=254).
Larie Lynch (Huntington, W.Va.) withdrew from the tournament on Sunday.
Arkansas State’s Anna Carling shot a 76 in the final round to hold on to first place and earn the individual’s victory.
“Our main focus right now is getting everyone healthy for Conference,” head coach Meredith Knight Rowsey said. “If we can do that I know we have a good chance.”
The Thundering Herd concludes its spring season at the Conference USA Tournament in Hattiesburg, Miss., on April 18-20.
