Charleston, WV (HNN) – For the second time in as many weeks, the Marshall University men’s soccer team swept a pair of Saturday matches, as MU defeated Slippery Rock University 2-0, and the University of the Cumberlands 3-0 on Saturday afternoon on Schoenbaum field in Charleston.

“It was a good day for us and I was pleased with how we played today,” Head Coach Bob Gray said. “We possessed the ball all afternoon like we worked on in practice. We look forward to two matches next weekend as we wrap up our spring season.”

The Thundering Herd used a penalty kick goal from Matt Butler and an Aaron Dini goal off a corner kick, along with solid defense, to blank Slippery Rock University 2-0 in MU’s first match of the day.

In a 3-0 win against U. of the Cumberlands, Devin Perkins netted the first goal, Tom Jackson scored the Herd’s second goal, on what was described as one of the prettiest goals of the spring season by Coach Gray, and Peter Bulet tallied the third goal.

Marshall is back in action next weekend as the Herd heads to Lexington, Ky., for matches with Evansville and Dayton.
