Marshall Men’s Golf Drops on Day Two of Pinehurst Intercollegiate
Kerns improves in second round

Pinehurst, NC (HNN) -- Marshall University men’s golf’s Nathan Kerns (Fr., Ironton., Ohio, Ironton H.S.) improved by eight strokes on day two of the Pinehurst Intercollegiate, held at Pinehurst #8 Centennial Golf Course in Pinehurst N.C. on Saturday afternoon, March 13, 2010.
Kerns completed the first round at eight-over-par, but bounced back in the second round and shot even par. Kerns is just one stroke behind teammate Carson Schambach (So., Glen Dale, W.Va., John Marshall H.S.), who sits at seven-over-par following two rounds of action.
Bennet Boyer (So., Millersburg, Pa., Millersburg Area H.S.) improved by one stroke in the second round, shooting a 76 and is at nine-over-par for the tournament.
Aaron Boggs (RS-Fr., Madison, W.Va., Scott H.S.) and Bosten Miller (So., Charleston, W.Va., Capital H.S.) each sit at 11-over-par through two rounds of play.
The Thundering Herd dropped three places to tie for 13th at the conclusion of day two.
Penn State remains atop of the 15-team field, with a two stroke lead over Virginia Tech as each shot a 292 on day two.
Virginia Tech’s Mike Moyers and Old Dominion's Sam Wall each enter day three at three-under-par and are tied for first in the individual tournament rankings.
Marshall’s Dustin Cutlip (RS Jr., Marlinton, W.Va., Pocahontas County H.S.) went five-over par on the day as he continues to compete as an individual in the tournament.
Tournament action concludes on Sunday, March 14 with the final round of play, beginning with a shotgun start.
