MARSHALL SPORTS: Snyder Finding Recruits for 2006 Season in Tri-State Schools

Huntington (HNN) – So far Marshall football coach Mark Snyder has had his
coaches hitting the recruiting trails.
In fact, only one week after his coaching staff was made complete, all the
coaches hit their various states to get a head start on the 2006 season.
Snyder, the Ironton native, got his first commitment a few weeks ago.
Ironically enough, his first recruit is from a place he is very familiar
with.
Darius Lewis, an Ironton running back, gave his verbal commitment last
month, giving Tri-State residents a reason to smile upon Snyder's hiring.
Now, Snyder is at it again as he has his second Tri-State product in Wayne
High School tight end/linebacker Trevor Marcum.
Marcum has been an all-state selection during his sophomore and junior years
in high school and now he is going to be called a Division I product in his
senior season.
The 6-foot-4, 245-pound tight end/linebacker was even named to Lindy's top
100 juniors to watch prior to last season.
Marcum helped Wayne to the state title game last season with 107 tackles
with 23 being for loss. He caught six touchdown passes from fellow Division
I-A prospect Nick Newell and Marcum runs a 40-yard dash in 4.7 seconds.
The upside to Marcum is his body size. Although he is already 6-foot-4 and
245 pounds, Marcum's frame could enable him to put on an additional amount
of weight, which would make him attractive to Marshall at the defensive end
spot.
In comparison, Johnathan Goddard, who led the nation in sacks last season,
was 6-foot, 245 pounds and was clocked at the NFL combine at 4.75 seconds in
the 40-yard dash.
Marcum joins a long list of Wayne County players to end up staying home to
play collegiate football, joining Nate Howard and Garrett Morrison are some
of the recent players. Jeff Edwards and Larry McCloud are the most widely
known Wayne County football players to grace the Marshall roster.
The two local players to verbally recruit for the 2006 season matches the
number of local recruits that gave verbal commitments to Marshall's football
program during the last recruiting season of former coach Bob Pruett.
