Whalen, Conrad Hold Off Huntington's Pat Carter, Shane Niceley in Four–Ball Tourney

Daniels, W. Va. (HNN) — Ryan Whalen of Morgantown and Jamie Conrad of Fayetteville held off Huntington's Pat Carter and Shane Nicely June 5, 2005, to take home the win in the West Virginia Four–Ball Tournament at Glade Springs Resort (Cobb Course) here by 3 strokes with a 14 under par score of 130.
 
After posting a scorching opening day round of a 9 under par 63 at the par 72 Cobb Course of 7,191 yards to lead the tournament, Whalen and Conrad managed a second day total of 5 under par for a score of 67 that brought their winning tournament score to 130 finishing just ahead of Huntington's Carter and Nicely, who finished with a tournament total of 133 after posting a 4 under par 68 on the first day and a 7 under par 65 in the event's final day of the tournament.
 
Rick Rhoades of Vienna and Brian Stump of Parkersburg posted the low round for Sunday's final event with a 9 under par 63, matching Whalen and Conrad's opening round total, but finished in third place for the second time in a row, this time with a tournament total of 134, just 4 strokes behind the leaders.
 
Three other teams finished 10 under par and 4 strokes behind Whalen and Conrad also, as Bill Sharpe (Edmond, WV) and Phil Mayes (Huntington), Tim Fisher (Statts Mills) and Joe Gossett (Ripley), and Erik Tedder (Charles Town) and David Bradshaw (Harpers Ferry) all finished with a total of 134 also.
 
Matt Hicks of Sissonville and David Lane of Coal City finished with a 9 under par total of 135, 5 strokes back, and Tim Dyer and Dave Hanna, both from Clarksburg, finished 6 strokes behind with a tournament total of 136.
