Raese Addresses Large Tea Party Crowd in Berkeley County
By Huntingtonnews.net Staff
Challenging Governor Joe Manchin on issues ranging from Obamacare
to the need to cut government and lower taxes, Republican U.S. Senate
candidate John Raese got several standing ovations for his remarks
at an election forum sponsored by the Blue Ridge Patriots Tea Party
organization.
Over 150 people were in attendance in the Musselman High School gymnasium Tuesday evening.
Governor Joe Manchin was invited to participate but was unable to attend.
Raese's freewheeling approach to answering questions from the audience proved to be a real crowd pleaser throughout the evening. While Raese sprinkled humor into his answers, he grew serious when talking about the recession and its affect on West Virginia and the nation as a whole.
"Everyone here is a patriot who cares about our country's future,"
said Raese. "Well, we are in the eleventh hour, some would say
we're already past the eleventh hour. But these are manmade
problems, so the good news is that they can be reversed."
Raese also said that, unlike Manchin, who has changed his positions on issues like Cap and Trade and even Obamacare to a degree, he's been consistent in his opposition to both measures.
"If you give me two years in the U.S. Senate, I'll do my level best to start getting the government off our backs," said Raese. "We've got to get our economy going again, and the only way out is capitalism."
Raese's wife, Liz, accompanied her husband to the event and was busy talking with many of those gathered following Raese's presentation. The Raeses travel the state in a family van, going from event to event.
