Washington, D.C. (HNN) — Senator Carte Goodwin today voted to confirm Solicitor General Elena Kagan for the United States Supreme Court. Solicitor General Kagan was confirmed by the entire U.S. Senate by a bipartisan vote of 63-37.
Senator Goodwin issued the following statement:
“We’ve made history today in confirming Solicitor General Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court. But Kagan has made history many times before. In addition to serving as the first woman Solicitor General, she was first woman Dean at Harvard Law School. Kagan’s academic credentials are impeccable and her previous public service will bring a unique perspective to the Court. She has proven that she is a gifted and skilled lawyer who can handle the intricate issues that will be presented to the Supreme Court.
“I strongly believe that members of the Supreme Court must be guided by an adherence to the rule of law. I have reviewed Kagan’s record, and I am convinced that she has a fundamental and deep respect for the rule of law and our Constitution. I am confident that Elena Kagan will make an excellent Associate Justice and I am proud to support her.”
