MCKINLEY TO OLIVERIO: “In Bed With Anti-Coal Activists?”
Explanation sought for Campaign Cash from Pelosi Inner Circle “Judged by Company You Keep”

Wheeling, WV (HNN) – David McKinley’s congressional campaign in West Virginia’s First District is asking opponent Michael A. Oliverio to explain why, in his bid to go to Washington, he took cash from a leading critic of coal.

Official records on file with the Federal Election Commission show that Oliverio pocketed $2,000.00 for his campaign coffers from U.S. Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), a lieutenant to U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Van Hollen addressed an “Anti-Coal Day” rally in Washington last year. He is captured on video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjfDkfZaMEU with a bullhorn in front of a crowd holding signs reading “No Coal” and “No More Coal”

Days earlier, Pelosi issued a proclamation to convert the U.S. Capitol power plant from coal to natural gas.

Oliverio is on record saying that if elected to the U.S. House he will not “rock the boat” when it comes to challenging Pelosi.

In addition to the $2,000 from Van Hollen to Oliverio, FEC documents show that another political committee controlled by Van Hollen last month made two in-kind contributions to Oliverio.

“You are judged by the company you keep and one wonders what strings are attached to this cash to Mr. Oliverio from a leading opponent of coal,” said Steve Cohen with the McKinley campaign. “Perhaps Mr. Oliverio can explain his relationship to Nancy Pelosi’s inner circle and coal foe Van Hollen. Speaker Pelosi would kill coal jobs in West Virginia. In Congress David McKinley will lead the fight against Obama’s War on Coal to protect West Virginia jobs.
