Huntington, WV (HNN) – The Marshall University Foundation, Inc., is sponsoring a Student Video Contest to promote the new 1837 Society, a student-based giving society established this year to recognize students who give to the Foundation while attending Marshall.
“We are excited to introduce this new way to recognize students who contribute to the Marshall University Foundation and support their school. This demonstrates our students’ understanding of the critical role private support plays in the quality of education at Marshall. We are pleased that they recognize the need to support the institution and to pave the way for future students,” said Rebecca Randolph, the assistant vice president of development at Marshall.
Students may upload their videos to YouTube, become a fan of the Foundation on Facebook at www.facebook.com/marshallfoundation, and post a link to their videos on the Foundation Facebook page. Videos will be accepted for the contest through Friday, March 11, 2011. Videos must be created and submitted by Marshall University students in order for them to be eligible to win one of two prizes – Celebrity’s Choice ($250 Visa gift card) or Fan Favorite ($100 Visa gift card).

· Why giving matters and how gifts help the university“If you think about Marshall you think about the students here, their creativity, their commitment to learning and those who are here on financial assistance provided by others. Who better to tell the story and promote what giving means than those who receive the benefits every day. We are anxious to see their take on why giving is important and how they will encourage their peers,” Randolph explained.
· How to make a contribution – visit www.marshall.edu/1837 to give online or stop by the MU Foundation at 519 John Marshall Dr. on the Huntington campus
