Huntington, WV (HNN) – The Marshall University football team scored a season-high 31 points in the first half and recorded touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams to win the 2010 season finale against the Tulane Green Wave, 38-23, on Saturday afternoon at Joan C. Edwards Stadium.

Senior linebacker Mario Harvey had a standout performance collecting a career-high 21 tackles (nine solo, 12 assist) along with five pass break-ups, three tackles for loss, two sacks and one forced fumble in his final game suiting up for the Thundering Herd.

Safeties Donald Brown and Omar Brown also each contributed solid defensive efforts in the victory. D. Brown finished with 11 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack, while O. Brown registered two interceptions along with ten tackles.

Seniors Courtney Edmondson and Chuck Walker, along with freshman Tron Martinez, each hauled in touchdown receptions as Marshall concludes the season with a 5-7 overall record, 4-4 against Conference USA opponents.

Playing in his final game for the Thundering Herd, quarterback Brian Anderson fired a pair of touchdowns through the air along 162 passing yards.

Tulane (4-8, 2-6 C-USA) received 370 yards passing yards from quarterback Ryan Griffin. He completed 36-of-64 pass attempts and a score, but was intercepted three times on the afternoon. Running back Orleans Darkwa rushed for a pair of scores in the loss.

The Green Wave took an early lead in the first quarter when Darkwa dashed in from eight yards out for a score, after a Herd fumble on its first possession of the game.

Marshal would strike right back on the ensuing possession when MU running back Jermaine Kelson used some trickier by taking a pitch from Anderson and completed an 18-yard touchdown to Walker to even the score.

On the first play of the second quarter, Anderson hooked up with Edmonson for a 20-yard touchdown to take the lead that the Herd would not relinquish.

The Herd tacked on seven more points, when Essray Taliaferro blocked a punt that was scooped up by Kevin Perry at the two-yard line and plunged in for the score. It marked the first time Marshall scored on a blocked punt since Sept. 16, 2006 at Kansas State.

Following a touchdown reception from Griffin to wideout Ryan Grant with eight seconds remaining in the opening half, Marshall was able to add on three additional points when Tyler Warner split the uprights from 33 yards out to take a 31-14 lead into the locker room.

A Rashad Jackson 84-yard interception return for a touchdown in the third quarter would cap off the scoring for the Herd on the day. Tulane added another touchdown from Darkwa and a safety to bring the final score to 38-23.
