Huntington, WV (HNN) - Marshall will play host to Memphis in Conference USA football action Saturday at Joan C. Edwards Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET and the game will not be televised.

The Thundering Herd (3-6 overall, 2-3 C-USA) has won two consecutive games after last weekend's 31-17 win at UAB and hopes to keep its new found momentum going against the Tigers who are 1-8 overall and 0-5 in league play following a 50-14 loss to Tennessee last week.

Marshall leads the all-time series with Memphis, 3-2. The Thundering Herd has also won two straight with a 27-16 win last year at Memphis and a 17-16 win over the Tigers in Huntington back in 2008.

Marshall fans will be very familiar with two Memphis assistant coaches. Jay Hopson who serves as the Memphis Defensive Coordinator and safeties coach was an assistant under Bob Pruett at Marshall from 1996-2000. Shannon Morrison who serves as the cornerbacks coach was an honorable mention All-American as a player at Marshall in 1994 and the Marshall grad went on to serve as an assistant coach at MU from 2005-2008. Morrison still ranks 6th all-time in career interceptions at Marshall with 11.

This weekend is a special one on the Marshall campus as Marshall remembers the 75 lives that were lost in the worst sports related disaster in American History - the 1970 Marshall Football plane crash. This Sunday marks the 40th anniversary of the crash and many family members and guests will be on campus for Saturday's game and Sunday's 1 p.m. memorial service at the Memorial Fountain. Prior to kickoff Saturday, Marshall will recognize three members of the 1970 coaching staff that were not on the flight - Mickey Jackson, Carl Kokor and Red Dawson. Luciann Kautz Call, daughter of Director of Athletics Charlie Kautz, will also be recognized prior to kickoff. Marshall is also welcoming back the eight remaining members of the 1970 cheerleading squad and that group will be honored between the first and second quarters. The family of Marcelo Lajterman will be recognized in the first quarter for endowing a scholarship in Marcelo's memory. In addition, Coach Jack Lengyel and much of the 1971 "Young Thundering Herd" team will be in attendance.

The tragedy and Marshall's commitment to continue its football program was the focus of the 2006 Warner Bros. movie "We Are Marshall" and an award-winning documentary called "Ashes to Glory."
