Men’s Soccer Hosts No.18 South Carolina in Pivotal C-USA Battle
Both teams enter with seven conference points

Huntington, WV (HNN) – With just two remaining Conference USA matches left on the slate, the Marshall University men’s soccer team looks for a marquee win Saturday night at Sam Hood Field against No.18 South Carolina. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
The Thundering Herd enters its final home contest of the season with an overall record of 7-4-4. The Herd sits in fourth place in the C-USA standings with seven points and a conference record of 2-3-1.
With nine teams vying for six post-season berth’s in the C-USA tournament, MU, along with UCF, are the only two teams in conference to have played six matches, while the rest of the league has played either five of four.
The Gamecocks (7-4-2, 2-1-1 C-USA) come to Sam Hood Field in third place as they also have seven conference points. USC has played seven teams who have appeared in the NSCAA Top 25 at one point this season, and is coming off a road loss to No.4 North Carolina, 1-0.
With its 2-2 tie against Oral Roberts last Sunday, MU played its ninth overtime match of the season and its fourth in a row. Both tie school records.
Eleven different Marshall players have combined to score 24 goals on the season, which ranks the Herd 26th nationally in total goals (out of 201 teams). It’s .093 goals against average (15 goals allowed) ranks Marshall 53rd and MU is second in conference only behind UCF.
There will be a brief ceremony prior to the match to honor the five Marshall players; Sammy Boateng, Mat Butler, Dalton Hadlock, Kendall Sutton and Natty Thomas, who will be playing their final match at home as members of the Thundering Herd.
