Huntington, WV (HNN) — First year Marshall men’s basketball coach Tom Herrion debuted the 2010-11 edition of the Thundering Herd Oct.16 as part the annual Herd Madness in the Cam Henderson Center.

The night began with a 2-Ball Competition. Earning points from different areas of the court, the event was won by the duo of junior Damier Pitts and sophomore Noah Fischer. Pitts and Fischer posted a two-round tally of 65 including four ½ court shots.

Next up was the Slam Dunk Contest. After three rounds, and a vote by a committee of five Marshall fans, redshirt junior Johnny Thomas took home top honors with a dunk that began with a pass from teammate DeAndre Kane who was standing 12 rows up in the stands of the Henderson Center.

The night was capped off by a 20-minute scrimmage. The crowd of 2,017 saw the Green team defeat the White team 52-46. The Green Team’s Thomas led all scorers with 13 points. Thomas, a North Carolina State transfer, was 6-of-11 from the floor and had one steal. Other Green Teamers in double figures included Tirrell Baines (12) and Kane who posted 10. Kane also dished out eight assists. The White Team was paced by Pitts who had 10 points and six assists.
