Marshall Orthopedics Residents Host Inaugural "Joints Jog" To Benefit Food Bank
Special to Huntingtonnews.net
Huntington, WV (HNN) - Second-year orthopedics residents at Marshall's medical school are sponsoring the inaugural 5K "Joints Jog" for charity Oct. 23. Proceeds will go to the Huntington Area Food Bank, which helps to feed more than 85,000 people each month.
"These people are grandparents, kids, moms and dads who struggle to meet their basic needs," Dr. Stan Israelsen said in announcing the run. "Many of the families served by the food bank are the 'working poor' - people who work hard and still have to choose between eating and other basic necessities such as medicine and housing."
The Joints Jog will start at 9 a.m. at the Ritter Park pavilion, and the organizers are seeking both joggers and volunteers. T-shirts will be provided to at least the first hundred registrants, and awards will be given to winners in seven age groups: 0-10, 11-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49 and 50+. Registration is $20 for adults and $15 for children 14 and under.
Online registration is available at http://www.active.com/5k-race/huntington-wv/marshall-university-orthopedics-joints-jog-5k-2010, and donations also can be made via that site.
