Marshall University Hosts Panel Discussion On Politics And Media

Huntington, WV (HNN) – Marshall University continues its celebration of Constitution Week at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 21 with a panel discussion on “Politics, Political Parties, and the Media in the 21st Century.” The event, which is open to the public, will take place at the Joan C. Edwards Playhouse on the Huntington campus.
 
Special guest panelists include:
 
 
· Al May, an associate professor in the School of Media and Public Affairs at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He directed the university’s journalism program from 1998 to 2005. He has written on media coverage of online politics, including media case studies on Jeremiah Wright, the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, and Hurricane Katrina.
 
· Bruce Hardy, a senior research analyst at the Annenberg Center for Public Policy at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. His research interests include the effects of political campaigns, the interactive impact of interpersonal communication and mass media on political attitudes and behavior, and research methods.
 
· Dr. Robert Rupp, a professor of history and political science at West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon, W.Va. He often serves as an analyst for coverage of the Legislature and other political events in West Virginia. Rupp is a regular contributor to the Opinion page of the Charleston Gazette. Moderating the discussion will be Beth Vorhees, host of West Virginia Morning on West Virginia Public Radio. Viewers see her every evening on The Legislature Today during the 60-day regular Legislative session. The Associated Press Broadcasters Association has awarded Vorhees the title of best radio anchor eight years in a row.
