“It was a challenging task (completing a non-conference schedule), but we were able to put together a schedule that will absolutely challenge and prepare our team for the Conference USA play,” Herrion said. “The quality of opponents and some programs that our fans can identify with should excite all of us as we prepare for an exciting season."

Conference USA play begins Jan. 5 when Marshall travels to UCF. The big change to the Conference USA portion of the schedule is the advent of the two-division format for league play. Marshall is in a division with UAB, UCF, East Carolina, Memphis, and Southern Miss, and will each of those teams home and away. The Thundering Herd will take on Houston, Rice, SMU, UTEP, Tulane, and Tulsa on one occasion this season.

In addition to Marshall (74), UTEP (42), UAB (48), Memphis (57) and Tulsa (69) all ended 2010-11 in the top 75 of the final NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball RPI report.

“We have great respect for the challenges that exist throughout the 16-game Conference USA schedule,” said Herrion. “The quality and depth of the overall league will test us each and every night, we have outstanding coaches and very talented players, but we are excited about the rigorous challenge we face.”

Game times will be finalized once the non-conference and Conference USA Television packages are completed.
