Lake Charles, La. (HNN) – Herd softball alumni Rachel Folden, Amanda Williams and Jessica Williams will compete for the 2010 National Pro Fastpitch Title at McMurry Park starting on Thursday afternoon.
“Amanda, Jessica and Rachel were all outstanding student-athletes for our program,” said head coach Shonda Stanton. “It is awesome they have the opportunity to compete at the next level amongst the best softball players in the country. They have been great ambassadors for Marshall University and I am proud of what they have accomplished.”
Folden and the Chicago Bandits captured the 2010 NPF Regular Season title, the programs third-consecutive. The 2008 MU graduate is shooting for her second-personal tournament title in her professional career. She currently paces the league in RBI (32), home runs (12), and on-base percentage (.415) and stands at second with a .316 batting average.
Thundering Herd assistant coach A. Williams had a successful outing in 2009, returning to Huntington with a championship title with the former Rockford Thunder. Playing for the newly formed Tennessee Diamonds this season, A. Williams stands at 15th in the league in batting average while sitting at second on the club in doubles, with six.
Both A. Williams and Folden were named NPF All-Stars one year ago.
J. Williams will help the second-seeded USSSA Pride en route to their search for a title after finishing the regular season with a record of 28-20. A 2006 graduate alongside sister A. Williams, the outfielder has posted 11 runs and a .367 on-base percentage during regular-season action.
