Steele Named National Business Manager Of The Year
Marshall Associate A.D. Earns National Honor from His Peers

Huntington, WV (HNN) - David Steele, Marshall University’s Associate Athletic Director for Finance and Administration, was recently named the College Business Athletic Management Association’s national business manager of the year at the annual CABMA Convention in Anaheim, California.
CABMA's Manager of the Year is chosen annually by the membership from nominations of individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the profession of athletics business management and who are full CABMA members. The member receiving the most votes is named CABMA's Manager of the Year.
“David has done an outstanding job and we are very fortunate to have him here at Marshall University,” Marshall University Director of Athletics Mike Hamrick said.
Steele has been at Marshall for 15 years where he oversees all business operations and budgeting for Marshall Athletics. Other responsibilities include concessions, video and assisting the director of athletics with football scheduling. Steele serves as treasurer of the Big Green Scholarship Foundation, the schools athletic fundraising organization, and is a member of the Executive Committee. He also has Big Green fundraising responsibilities in select counties in Ohio and West Virginia. Steele also served as interim Director of Athletics at Marshall following the retirement of Bob Marcum in the summer of 2009. Prior to Marshall he served as ticket manager, business manager and assistant athletic director at Rice University from 1984-1995.
Steele earned his B.A. in managerial studies and political science from Rice in 1982, where he was a three-year letter winner on the varsity golf team. He went on to earn a master’s degree in sports administration from Ohio University in 1984.
Steele joined CABMA in ’85 and has been a member for 25 years. He currently serves on the Membership Committee as contact for C-USA.
Steele is married to Diana (Bruner) and the couple has a daughter, Madison.
