Marshall Receives $250,000 on Donnie Jones Contract Buyout
Will Enforce Terms of Contract

Huntington, WV (HNN) — In response to recent inquires on the status of the buyout of the contract of former Marshall University men’s basketball head coach Donnie Jones, Marshall University issued the following statement on Thursday, April 29, 2010:
“Marshall University has received partial payment of $250,000 towards Coach Jones’ $500,000 buyout. Marshall University intends to take the appropriate action necessary to enforce the terms of Coach Jones’ contract.”
Jones is now the head basketball coach at the University of Central Florida (UCF) in Orlando. Earlier this month news sources there reported that Jones has hired all of his former MU assistant coaches. Shawn Finney, Brett Nelson and Darren Tillis will join Jones' staff as assistant coaches, while Tim Thomas will be new the director of basketball operations. All four were on Jones' staff at Marshall for the past three years, helping rebuild the Thundering Herd program.
Orlando, FL news sources reported that Micah Byars, who was UCF's director of basketball operations from 2006-10, is the only member of former coach Kirk Speraw's staff who will remain with the program as an administrative assistant.
