ASHLAND CHRISTMAS PARADE
By Chris Spencer
(ASHLAND, KY Nov. 25)Thousands of people jammed the streets of
Ashland, Ky for their annual Christmas parade on Tuesday evening to
start the Christmas Holiday season.
Traffic was heavy coming into Ashland for the parade. The
parade started at 7 PM and was the longest Christmas parade for the
community, lasting for two hours to get all the bands floats, fire
departments, pageant winners and civic groups in.
The cold evening had many bundled up. Many band members
waited patiently for over a hour like the Huntington High School Band
that marched toward the end of the parade for their turn to march.
With so many parade participants passing out candy it was easy to
accumulate a pocket full of candy by parade's end. At the end of
parade was Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus to the delight of children.
The Christmas lights in Central Park were a dazzling holiday
display and are well worth a look. Many parade goers had to park in
Central Park to go to the parade and the Christmas display in the park
added to the Christmas Holiday spirit before and after the parade.
