Huntington, WV (HNN) – Memories kept the Magic 97.9 party rolling at the Pullman Plaza on New Year’s Eve. J.B. Miller played not only music from the 70s, 80s, 80s and today, but he weaved in events too.
For instance, when spinning a disco tune, Miller remarked that some of those in attendance may remember it from the old Inferno nightspot. Although the location is now part of MU’s soft ball field, the Inferno originally foisted the first Saturday Night Fever sounds from a location behind what is now City Bank on 20th Street and Fifth Avenue.
At that time, the dance club had a unique means for singles to hook up. Each of the tables had telephones and the phone number was above the table. So, you could call up that good looking “girl” or “guy” from another table and try a little small talk before asking her to dance.
The Pullman Plaza dance floor stayed crowded as the disc jockey kept most of the songs lively and fast, such as “YMCA” line dance variations, and , of course, a few close to you slow numbers.
