Huntington, WV (HNN) – The chairpersons of the Finance, Public Safety and Personnel Committees of Huntington City Council have announced agendas and meetings for January 3 and 5, 2011 . The meetings will occur in council chambers at Huntington City Hall.

The Finance Committee, chaired by Steve Williams, has four agenda items and meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Two of the issues come from respective first readings at the Dec. 27 council meeting. One involves a re-evaluation of the purchase threshold above which the item must be approved by council. Councilman Jim Ritter sponsored revisiting the previously raised limit.

Ritter at the Monday Dec. 27 meeting referred to what he termed improper maintenance of city salt spreading equipment as an example for worker to take care proper care of current items, not leave them out in the weather then request new ones.

Councilman Nate Randolph has proposed a B & O tax incentive for enticing larger construction projects either in city limits or for enticing annexation during construction.

The committee will look over a natural gas contract whose specifications refer to a complex index, which would determine the contract in the city’s best interest.

As a final item on the Finance agenda, the committee will discuss the actual revenue and expense numbers for November 2010.

The personnel committee meets at 5:15 p.m. January 15. The only listed item on its agenda will be discussion of a contract for random drug and alcohol testing of city employees, including those to whom the testing applies.

At 6 p.m. the Public Safety Committee will discuss two grant applications by the Huntington Fire Department.

The public may attend committee meetings and they are televised on Comcast Channel 24.
