Huntington, WV (HNN) – The first McDonald's in the country with the latest car charging technology a Level 2 Car Charging Station opened the doors for business at 116 Fifth Ave in Huntington with a ribbon cutting at 10 AM on Thursday morning.
Despite a winter storm warning and snow falling about 300 people jammed inside the new McDonald's to order and hopefully be one of the first 100 customers. The first 100 customers received a Big Mac or Egg McGuffin coupon each week for a year.
Numbers were given out to the first 100 customers and then called to order. The first customers were Mr. and Mrs. John and Anna Collins from Huntington. John is a retired Huntington firefighter and now is a ball room dance teacher and artist.
One of those first 100 customers was Mr. Bradley from Kenova, WV that came to the store around 1:15 AM. At the time he stuck a note in the door saying he was there first, but returned about 6:30 AM with other family members to also get the free promotion offer.
One person was able to get in line about 9:20 AM and received number 95.
Huntington Mayor Kim Wolfe and McDonald's owner Tom Wolf cut the ribbon to an applause of the customers. By 10:40 the first 100 customers had been served a feat that pleased the McDonald's executives.
The new McDonald's at 116 Fifth Ave. replaces the former McDonald's located at Washington Ave. that had been closed for about two weeks. The McDonald's on Washington Ave. was the first McDonald's in West Virginia.
The new McDonald's has the the distinction of being the first in America with a Level 2 Charging Station that recharges batteries of electric cars. There are two stations located on the drive-thru side of the building.
Steven G. Stewart, Director of External Affairs for Appalachian Power was there with an electric vehicle to show and promote the latest technology. The snow kept falling during their demonstration.
The new McDonald's has many promotions and chances to win prizes throughout the opening week.
