Perfect Viewing Conditions for Lunar Eclipse -- in Port Lavaca TX
By David M. Kinchen
I wouldn't want to sit outside for two hours in Huntington, Beckley, Hinton, Charleston or anywhere in West Virginia to observe and photograph the Dec. 21 lunar eclipse, but the weather was perfect, in the 50s, in Port Lavaca, Texas, where I live.
The accompanying photos were made between 12:30 and 1:50 a.m. Central Standard Time with a Canon Digital Rebel camera with a 500 mm F8 mirror lens attached.
According to NASA this lunar eclipse which will coincide with 2010's winter solstice for the first time since Dec. 21, 1638, and it won't happen again until at least 2094.
