Soldier’s Homecoming Parade, Chili Dinner, Auction Among Guyandotte Events Dec. 21

Huntington, WV (HNN) - Guyandotte hosts a chili dinner, Soldier’s Homecoming Parade and an auction Dec. 21. Yellow ribbons will surround the parade route and Richard Simmons hopes to have 50 of them.
 
Ribbons cost $10 and funds will be used to purchase uniforms for the 14 Guyandotte Community Cheerleaders. There are 14 girls on the teams in grades three through five.
 
Simmons explained, “the parade route will be lined with "In Honor of" or "In Memory of" yellow bows. The yellow bows will contain the name of a special soldier or loved one. They will also contain the branch of service and rank of the soldier or the relationship of your loved one.”

Huntington City Councilman Scott Caserta , a U.S. Air Force veteran, will be the parade's grand marshal and Rick Simmons, a Navy vet who just served in Guam, will be the honorary grand marshal.
 
The activities begin at 3 p.m. with the chili supper at the Guyandotte Methodist Church. A $5 donation gets you chili, coleslaw, cornbread and a drink.
 
Parade activities begin at 7 p.m.
 
An auction hosted by the Carter G. Woodson Foundation will raise funds for the preservation of the Memphis Tennessee Garrison home will held at 7:30pm at the Guyandotte United Methodist Church on Tuesday Dec.21st.There will be over 100 items on the auction block including a Waterford crystal decanter with a bottle of wine valued at well over $300, an authentic Peyton Manning framed 8x10 autographed photo complete with letter of verification, an antique sword and scaffold (not too much info on this item) Plenty of artwork, lots of Marshall items, including an all team autographed football.
