Huntington, WV (HNN) – Back in February 2009, sixty years of history with a “pop” took on water and sank into the Ohio River. The Showboat Marina (a.k.a. Cajun Kitchen) has been partially under water since that day; it’s owner hoped to rebuild but nothing occurred.

The Corps of Engineers will remove the sunken Showboat Marina beginning on or about December 20, 2010, according to a Corps. release. J-Way Leasing and Marine will perform the removal using a sectional barge. The work will occur from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Saturday. Most of the removal operation will occur from the river bank.

Work on extracting the former marina is expected to be completed by about February 8, 2011.

At the time of the sinking two people were on the barge. The Guyandotte location had been a floating restaurant and marina for numerous years.
