New Cumberland, WV (HNN) – For the third time since 1995, workers have died at a small Hancock County , WV chemical plant. The explosion occurred at AL Solutions which had formerly been known as Jamegy Inc.

The town’s police chief, Lester Skinner, explained to media representatives that the two men who died were working with titanium powder used as an alloy additive of aluminum. Packed into bricks resembling hockey pucks, they are highly flammable burning hotter than wood and other fuels.

A molten titanium fire in South Los Angeles on July 15, 2010 showered burning metal onto the street. Over 200 firefighters battled that titanium fueled blaze. The burning metal becomes more flammable when making contact with water.

Killed in the WV fire were brothers Jeffery Fish and James Fish. They were workers who lived within walking distance of the plant. A third man was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital suffering from severe burns.

Representatives of the Department of Labor arrived on the scene to begin investigation of the blast.
