Huntington, WV (HNN) – The combination of cold temperatures and a bit of snow flurries made nice conditions for the Huntington Christmas Parade that was held Thursday night and ended with the lighting of the Christmas tree at Pullman Square.
The parade started on Fourth Ave at 7 PM with many units participating making it one of the largest Christmas parades in recent Huntington history. There were bands, church groups, pageant winners, businesses, schools, dance schools and youth groups mostly with a Christmas theme for the holiday season. In tradition Santa Claus came at the end of the 1 hour 15 minute parade waving to all from a horse and carriage.
Plenty of people packed Fourth. Ave and around Pullman Square where the parade ended where awards were presented to parade participants and the Christmas tree lighted.
The first place band award went to Green High School, second place went to Huntington High and Tolsia High School was presented third place.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from Yatesville Lake won the corporate category for best float. The First Baptist Church of Proctorville won the amateur float category award.
