Huntington’s Public Safety Committee Addresses Synthetic Marijuana
By Tony Rutherford
Huntingtonnews.net Reporter
Following the Finance meeting, the Public Safety Committee takes up discussion of the proposed synthetic marijuana (disguised as incense ) on Tuesday, Nov. 30 at 6:30 p.m.
Committee chairperson Frances Jackson along with Huntington Police Chief Skip Holbrook, Mayor Wolfe, sponsor Scott Caserta and other council members have supported this ordinance.
Cabell County Schools have already instituted a rule against the substance, which goes by such deceptive names as K2, Acapulco Spices, Afghan Incense, Baked Black Magic, Buss, Cherry Charm, Fire Bird, Pulse, and Voodoo.
Instead of burning the contents, minors “smoke” the ingredients which results in a “high” similar to that which is experienced by smoking pot. A minority of states and municipalities have currently prohibited the so-called synthetic marijuana for sale to minors. Unlike other simulated substances, this synthetic marijuana can be sold at retailers without an age restriction.
