Free Medical Screenings Offered to Former Construction Workers at DOE Huntington Pilot Plant
From Buildings and Trades Release
Special to Huntingtonnews.net
Huntington, WV (HNN) - Construction workers who performed work at Huntington Pilot Plant are eligible to receive a free medical screening to see if their exposures may have caused life threatening ailments.
The Building and Trades National Medical Screen Program, http://www.btmed.org --- is a national program that began in 1996 to provide free screenings for the more than 700,000 construction workers whose work with the nuclear weapons programs on Department of Energy sites put their health at risk. The program is coordinated by the Center for Construction Research and Training, a nonprofit group created by the Building & Construction Trades Department of the ALF-CIO and currently provides screenings to construction workers from 18 DOE sites across the country. Screenings include an interview and medical screening.
Many BTMed participants have discovered illnesses they do not know were present and then gained access to government funded benefits for those illnesses. The screening program has enabled many workers to file a claim with the U.S. Department of Energy under the Energy Employees Occupation Illness Compensation Act.
If you performed construction work at Huntington Pilot Plant, contact Kim Cranford, 1-88-464-0009 or Ron Bush at our Portsmouth Outreach Office (Wednesdays only) at 740-353-8808.
