From Cabell Huntington Hospital Release
Huntington, WV (HNN) - Cabell Huntington issued the following statement Friday regarding inaccuracies being reported:
"Cabell Huntington Hospital remains committed to negotiating a new labor agreement with SEIU 1199 at the bargaining table and not through the media. It is clear, however, that a number of inaccuracies are being widely reported, and, without going into details of the hospital's proposal, we feel compelled to set the record straight on several important issues that are being misrepresented.
First, at no time has there ever been a proposal on the table to reduce employee wages. Under the hospital's proposal, our employees would continue to enjoy the highest wages and most generous benefit plan of any hospital in our region.
Second, under the hospital's proposal, employees would continue to pay no premiums at all for their health insurance coverage. The only change the hospital is requesting, to curb skyrocketing costs and utilization, is the addition of reasonable co-pays and deductibles for outpatient services. Additionally, many preventive health care services that were not covered under the previous contract, including well-child care, would be 100 percent covered under the current proposal.
Finally, under the hospital's proposal, there would be no changes whatsoever to the pension plan for current employees. New employees hired after January 1, 2011, would be covered under a different plan.
We believe the hospital's offer is both responsive to the needs of our employees and to the changing health care landscape across our nation and in our area. Above all, we want our patients, visitors and community to know that this process is not, in any way, impacting the care being provided at Cabell Huntington Hospital. We will certainly make every effort possible to reach an agreement, but regardless of the outcome, we remain 100 percent committed to doing everything necessary to ensure the continued, uninterrupted delivery of safe, quality patient care and service."
