Master Gardner Classes Start Nov 9

Huntington, WV (HNN) - The Cabell County Master Gardeners Association, Inc. (CCMG) are starting their 2011 Master Gardener Certification Classes on Tuesday Nov. 9th from 6:30pm-9:30pm at the Enslow Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, 1338 Enslow Boulevard, Huntington (near the intersection of Hal Greer Boulevard and Enslow Boulevard).
 
This first class will be lead by our WVU Extension Agent, Rich Sherman, who will provide the Introduction and Orientation to the 2011 course and a review of the responsibilities associated with becoming a Cabell County Master Gardener. The cost of the program is $85 which will cover the cost of the extensive study manual as well as moneys for refreshments and name badges for each evening class in 2011, mostly on Tuesdays.
 
To attain initial certification as a Master Gardener, graduates must complete at least 30 hours of formal study, attend all classes marked as Mandatory, and then give back to the community 30 hours of volunteer time, sharing your knowledge and experience with garden related projects. Maintaining this certification only requires 6 additional education hours and 12 volunteer hours annually.
 
The purpose for becoming a Master Gardener is to improve our knowledge & interest in horticulture, provide opportunities to meet with others with similar interests educate the community on horticultural practices and supplement consumer horticulture programs of the WVU Extension Service, and to undertake horticulture-based projects that improve the lives and communities of the people of WV.
