Huntington, WV (HNN) – A ten-day strike notice will be issued Wednesday morning, Nov. 3, to Cabell Huntington Hospital by the union that represents 800 of the facilities 2,300 workers. The strike would start Monday, Nov. 15 at 12 noon.
Although the vote was “overwhelming”, a published report indicated that the Service Employees International Union District 1199 wants to return to the table ; however, no discussions are scheduled.
The hospital released the following before the union vote:
"Contract negotiations are part of a cyclical process that occurs every three years. Although the process may seem adversarial at times, our position is not. We value all of our employees, and we respect their right to participate in the process of working toward an agreement.
It has always been the policy of Cabell Huntington Hospital to negotiate at the bargaining table and not through the media. We believe we have presented a fair and generous proposal and that it would not be appropriate to attempt to work through our differences in the press.
Above all, we want our patients, visitors and community to know that this process is not, in any way, impacting the care currently being provided at Cabell Huntington Hospital, and that we are 100-percent committed to ensuring that it never will."
