Williamson, WV (HNN) - Spike Maynard raised more than a quarter-million dollars over the October campaign finance period. Maynard out-raised 34-year incumbent Nick Rahall by more than 10-to-1: roughly $277,000, compared to Rahall's $22,505, stated Matt Dabrowski, press secretary for Spike Maynard.
"Nick Rahall has spent more than 2 million dollars in an attempt to hold on to his seat,” Dabrowski revealed citing a report filed Thursday afternoon. “This is a clear sign that West Virginians don't support the Obama-Pelosi agenda that Nick Rahall stands for."
During a brief e-mail interview, the press secretary continued stressing anti- Obama/Pelosi messages.
Maynard has been on a bus tour of WV with other leading state Republicans. Speaking of the trip, Dabrowski stated that people are “rallying to Spike’s pro –coal, pro-jobs message” which opposes the policies of Barrack Obama and Nancy Pelosi.
Checking an aggregate website of 2010 election polling (electionprojection.com), Anzalone Liszt Research on October 12, 2010 gave Rahall a 56% lead and on September 26, 2010 Global Strategy gave Rahall a 55% lead. Cook Political and CQ Politics have both moved from safe or likely Democratic predictions to likely or leaning Democratic. The Cook Partisan Voting Report places WV’s Third District as ranked 150 with a +7 Republican value due to voting results of the last two Presidential elections having gone Republican in the district.
However, Real Clear Politics calls this a “tough” race for the incumbent. Real Clear lists Rahall’s baggage as his votes on the Democratic health care bill, support of the stimulus, and raising the debt limit. The rating: Leans Democratic. USA Today rates the race as solid Democratic.
