Parkersburg, WV (HNN) – Huntington reenacted it’s $3 a week user fee pending the outcome of planned constitutional litigation related to its proposed occupation tax. However, Huntington is not the only WV city looking for revenue to cover deficits.

The City of Parkersburg is contemplating a $3 a week user fee on workers . One of the catalysts for the possible adoption --- St. Joseph hospital going from “for profit” to “not for profit” status. This change will lead to about $1 million in lost revenue for the City of Parkersburg.

Parkersburg Mayor Bob Newell called the fee temporary. Newell told Metro News, "Once the economy improves, it is likely that those things can be readjusted."

Should the fee be adopted, Newell said the city cannot profit from the levy upon 22,000 individuals who work in Parkersburg.

“Every dime of it has to go back into a service,” Newell said.

Currently, Charleston and Huntington have user fees.
