Marshall Releases Crime Statistics Late for 2009

Huntington, WV (HNN) –The Marshall University Department of Public Safety has released the 2009 crime statistics as required by the Clery Act. They admitted that due to misunderstanding the deadline changes that the data was released about two weeks past deadline.
The 2009 statistics list one on campus rate and an additional rape in the campus resident halls, three robberies, four on campus burglaries, and two burglaries in resident halls.
The bulk of arrests listed are for drug and liquor law violations. These include 13 (drug) and 37 (alcohol) at on campus facilities , 13 (drug) and 26 (alcohol) at student housing facilities, and 5 (drug) and 21 liquor (public property)
The statistics, particularly for liquor law violations , represent significant decreases in the number of arrests and an higher percentage of those arrested receiving some type of disciplinary action. . No fires were listed on campus or in campus buildings.

Since the students live outside the university footprint in off-campus, city apartments, those statistics would be reported to the Huntington Police Department. In addition, a former student accused with making a false police report pertaining to a sexual assault has turned himself in to authorities.
