Huntington, WV (HNN) – Despite four absences, the Huntington City Council day-after Columbus Day meeting brought forth unanimity on all matters.

Two issues --- both police related --- were either withdrawn (digital radio purchase due to a last minute low entry) or referred to the finance committee (purchase two 2010 vehicles with a JAG grant at a price lower than the 2011 contract bid).

Council approved two Huntington Sanitary Board “bond” issuance construction projects. One involves Richmond/Oak Street and 22nd Street/Kraut’s Creek Pumping Station improvements and the other rehabilitation of sewers at 13th Street West and 19th Street East.

With one abstention (Randolph), council awarded Paul Ambrose Trail design to Ed Tucker Architects for $162,501. Eleven firms bid on the project. Construction of the trail itself will be above one million dollars. Charles Holley, executive director development and planning, indicated that the office is working on an additional , yet to be approved grant, for the trail.

In addition, council approved a contract for the city’s annual audit, a zoning amendment to permit an insurance office in the 200 block of Fifth Avenue, and grants for art supplies at A.D. Lewis Community Center and for the Spirit of West Virginia calendar.

At the opening of the meeting, Huntington Mayor Kim Wolfe announced that the city received an anonymous gift of $100,000 which will be used for demolition of dilapidated housing.
