Special to Huntingtonnews.net

Joanne Gelin is the art teacher at Salt Rock and Milton Elementary. She is also a cancer survivor. The night of the cancer diagnosis Joanne began to write a book, "Lamont and Leander", which has now been published. The book is a book of hope and strength for those who face this disease.

This evening, Tuesday, September 14, 2010, she will be signing books at Milton Elementary School beginning at 6:00 PM. One of Joanne's former students will also be signing tonight as he has a special drawing in the book. He is also a cancer survivor.

Joanne's goal is to raise a million dollars through book sales during the next few years. She says she wants to donate proceeds to Children's projects in local hospitals, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital and other child-related charitable causes. Gelin's book is now on sale now at Empire Books, at various school Open Houses, and at St. Jude's Dream House in Charleston starting next weekend. The price is $14.95 plus $.90 tax totaling $15.85.

First Lady, Mrs. Gayle Manchin has written a review of the book and is very supportive of Joanne and her goal.

Joanne wants us to spread the word regarding her book and her efforts to support finding a cure for this disease.
